Yesterday's beta hCG was only 58. Although the nurse would not tell me whether this means something is wrong, she did say that it is "not ideal," especially in light of my spotting, and not where they would expect the number to be at this point in time for me.
I found the following online:
Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :
3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml
By LMP, if you consider that to be 7/3/09, I should be 5 weeks today. So they would expect a beta between 18 and 7340. Obviously I am at the low end of that scale.
I have to go for a repeat beta in the morning. I'm not feeling optimistic.
Ugh, I am so sorry. I really, really hope that it more than doubles tomorrow and that everything will be just fine. All I can say is I know the feeling of waiting to see what happens and it's a miserable feeling. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteYour nurse's comments surprise me! I was always told that the range of "okay" is sooooo broad, it just matter a) if it was positive, and b) that it doubled. So, everything is crossed for a doubling beta! Will you be able to get your results tomorrow, too? Sure hope you don't have to wait till after the weekend. Sorry you're having to deal with this uncertainty.
ReplyDeletekeeping my fingers crossed for you...
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about you during this time of uncertainty. I just went through this almost exactly to a tee (period-type bleeding, positive HPT, low betas), and after two weeks of blood draws for serial betas, they determined it was nonviable, so I had a D&C and then they found it was ectopic. I'm not trying to scare you by any means, just letting you know that I'm here for you in the case that you need it. It could very well be that you have a slow-growing bean and everything will turn out fantastic! In all the research I did on low beta numbers, I found quite a few cases of resulting normal, healthy pregnancies. Good luck!!!!!!
ReplyDeletedouble, double, double. thats what we need!!

ReplyDeleteKeeping you in my prayers. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm just getting caught up on blogs, and I'm so excited to see your BFP! I'm keepin' my fingers crossed for great numbers tomorrow!
